"I don't know where the sun beams end
And the star light begins
It's all a mystery..."
-- Flaming Lips
Perfect.
There is an answer...
In astrophysical terms, the point at which the sun beams end and the star light begins is pretty well defined, and is called the heliopause. Plasma from the sun is carried outwards by the solar wind to a very great distance, beyond the solar system we think of, defining a region called the heliosphere. As this wind collides with the interstellar medium, a shock front forms, and the point of pressure balance between the two is the heliopause, which delineates the influence of the sun. Beyond this point, the sun is just another star in the billions...
I don't think solving a mystery makes it any less mysterious though, or I wouldn't be an astronomer.
