Lying on the grass
Aug. 10th, 2008 05:42 pmI needed to get rid of some excess energy, so I went for a quick walk around the parks. It is lovely out there. I couldn't resist throwing myself on a sunlit patch of grass with my arms stretched over my head and watching the clouds blow across the blue sky between the pine trees, and the bright white aeroplane leaving a trail across the sky.
I've always thought that wind in trees sounds like the sea, but I really noticed why that is today. When there is a mix of trees, they all make different sounds, which combines like the sounds of the surf, and the waves breaking on the beach, then flowing back across the sand. The deciduous trees make a soft, continuous ssshhhhuuuuuussssshh like the surf, and the pine trees break in a beat later with a deep, angry hiissssss like shingle or coarse sand being pulled back by the receding wave. I feel very relaxed now.
