Sneaky but sweet
Aug. 4th, 2008 11:43 pmOn my way home tonight, I saw a little creature scuttle into a hole in the bottom of an old stone wall. Not really expecting to see anything, I squatted down about a metre away from the hole and kept still and quiet, and after a minute, the cutest little brown mouse stuck its head out. It then came right out of its hidey-hole and stood in the open looking up at me. It had clean, sleek fur and big black eyes, and seemed quite undaunted and interested in the company. After a few seconds of eye contact, a noise from across the road caused it to zip back inside to safety, and I waited another minute to see if it would emerge again. Just as I was giving up, I saw it out of the corner of my eye, a few metres further down the wall - the crafty little mouse had come out of a different hole to grab the food it wanted without having to go past me.
If I remember, I'll take some seeds with me tomorrow to drop outside the hole as a thank you.
