Bubble Tea
May. 11th, 2008 10:15 pmYesterday, Tim and I had bubble tea in a fantastic café near Leicester Square. I've wanted to try it for ages, though I was slightly dubious about the merits of tapioca in tea. As it was hot, I opted for Taiwanese-style frothy ice tea with milk, and it was cool and delicious. It came in a tall glass with a mammoth-sized bright pink straw just the right size for the black tapioca pearls. The tapioca was pleasingly chewy, like jelly cubes, but not really tasting of much, which was fine since the tea was fragrant and sweet.
Tim had been even more suspicious than me over the pearls, but I persuaded him to have them in his glass of honeydew melon juice, and he was a complete convert too. I guess there's just something fun about slurping up balls of tapioca through an enormous straw and chewing on them with a tasty drink. Yum.
