Romantic ruins
Mar. 21st, 2008 11:58 pmToday, I went with my parents and my favourite aunt and uncle to Old Waldour Castle, which was a grand castle before being thoroughly broken up by both sides in the Civil War and consigned to the status of "romantic ruin" in the grounds of a new building.
It was absolutely lovely. I wandered through it, moon-eyed, feeling like I should be wearing a long, flowing gown and have hair cascading down my back. I had visions of gallant knights come to sweep me into their arms and carry me away, possibly fighting dragons en route. It was that kind of place.
This evening, just before the light faded from the sky, there was a tremendous rainstorm and the heavy grey cloud looked as though it was bleeding into the white sky below. I've never seen rain so clearly.
